how to upload a pic?

I notice that people have uploaded pics into their posts. Could someone tell me the steps for how to do this?

(Assuming you already have the image you want to post in a compressed format such as JPG, GIF, or PNG)

Go to http://www.imageshack.us/, and click browse to find the image on your computer. Then hit the "Host it!" button, and it will be uploaded.

I figured out how to do that with photobucket. What I do not understand is how people can upload the pics so that the pics show up right in the body of their post.

Minus the asterisk, of course.
