How is this an Autism forum if we do not have a forum specifically for discussing special interests? This would cut down a lot on topic specific forum requests. This is not a request, really just more of a question.

I don't know.

That would be good if there was one, because there could be one thread about films, one thread about horses, one thread about art, and so on. And it'd be all under the category ''your special interests'' or something, instead of being dotted about among millions of other topics in other categories. Then when we want to talk about our special interests without the listener getting bored, all we have to do is go on WP and look for our favourite interest thread, and there's bound to be others who are interested in the same as you are, and you could talk about your special interest for hours! :D

Obviously I won't be able to because I'm obsessed with people, and you can't possibly talk about people to other people who don't know them. I admit, that is boring (unless you're bringing them up relevant in a conversation, but that's a different thing).

I've thought the same thing. I think it would be a good idea.

It's been asked for before. I remember posting my own request a few months back!

That'd be a fantastic idea, WP is behind on that.

Hey yeah, special interests and fixations are so inherent to Asperger's that this would probably be one of the most germane suggestions for a WP subforum which has ever been proposed.

I think it's a good idea. Sometimes proper threads about interests can get lost under all the spammy stuff in a forum like Random

on Zomg we had an "other interests" forum for things like that

It certainly would take some need off from many of the other the requests here for sub-forums. Simple answer: create a thread in special interests. There can be the cat thread, the animals thread, the aliens thread, etc. Do a quick search and find the thread on your topic, instant conversation with people having the same interest.

The forums listed under Topical Discussion are supposed about a few particular categories of special interests but I don't know about special interests outside of those. Perhaps a forum entitled "Miscellaneous Interests" under Topical Discussion would suffice? I think that would be a good idea.

I have quite a few special interests:

Aviation in general, especially military aviation, even more especially military aviation of both World Wars
Ships too, especially Naval ships, even more especially those from World War II

The World Wars of the 20th century: history, battles, personalities, technology (land, sea, air), politics, home front, propaganda, business, pop culture, basically anything and everything about them from all possible perspectives.

The Red Baron Manfred von Richthofen: his life, death and the aircraft he flew (especially the Fokker Triplane)

The attack on Pearl Harbor, the Battle of Midway (great amounts of trivia known about the ships, aircraft and people involved)

The fact of Evolution, the "controversy" about teaching it (which btw is a social controversy, NOT a scientific one)

Science, History, Languages

Comparative Mythology including history and interpretations of Christianity

Advaita Vedanta Hinduism, Mahayana Buddhism, Taoism

Cats

This kind of proves my point. A lot of us have very obscure interests.
