In the profile settings?
Theres a bunch of stuff about Aspergers diagnosed, Aspergers undiagnosed, Aspergers in a family member, and then a kind of catch all 'other ASD spectrum disorder', almost like an after thought.
That seems strange to me and I wonder if there are people who would like to have options like 'Autism diagnosed' and similar.

I think with Aspergers coming off the DSM this change will have to be made eventually.

I think the term Aspergers is probably here to say, however I think it would be good to have Autism and other categories available in the profile setting.
It just seems (to me) there's an Aspergers centric focus on here a lot and that extends through to things like that setting.

Profile diagnosis settings
- Have Aspergers - Diagnosed
- Have Aspergers - Undiagnosed
- Not sure if I have it or not
- Family member with Aspergers
- Other Autism Spectrum Disorder
- Neurotypical

So 4 different Aspergers related categories, 1 for NT, and 1 for all other variations of Autism; which could and does seem to vary from (what some might call) LFA people to people describing themselves primarily as Dyspraxic or ADD/ADHD.
Furthermore as a parent of a child with Autism I can't choose 'Family member with Autism' because its not there, and I can't choose 'Family member with Aspergers' because thats not true. I think the setting has a useful purpose, its not blurbing it out such as might be the case if you put such a thing in a signature, but its there available for people to check if they choose to do so, and I do do this on occasion, as I sometimes find it useful to understand the context of a conversation or viewpoint better.

Just my opinion :)

I do agree with what Nostromo is saying.

If the Asperger's references were replaced with "Autism Spectrum Disorders" and a category provided for those who have ADHD, dyspraxia, dyslexia, etc, that would probably go a long way.

I agree as well :)

Same here. When I joined I wanted to put "family member with autism" but there is no such category, so I put NT, which is the only category that is true for me.

I put family member with Asperger's, which is true but doesn't say it all. If I could say it all it would also say other autistic spectrum disorder undiagnosed, because after studying AS for 8 years and a lifetime of knowing my own struggles, I believe that is an accurate description.

I find myself checking the diagnosis on posters from time to time, when I run into a post that I can't seem to get my head around.

You're onto something though nostromos; there do need to be more options.

I just noticed that yesterday, I was considering changing mine because although I have Aspergers, that's not why I'm here. I'm here because I have a family member with autism and was appalled that "family member with Asperger's" was there but "family member with autism" is not.

I think the option of leaving that blank should be there. I don't agree with forcing a choice in any context (likewise, religion or gender or age- though age is the only one you can choose to not display, and thankfully religion is not even an option, which I think would be a horrid idea)

I kind of like the idea of BAP for basal autistic phenotype.

We need it like this:

Asperger's - Diagnosed
Asperger's - Undiagnosed
Unsure of Diagnosis
High Functioning Autism
Classic Kanner's
PDD-NOS
Childhood Disintegrative Disorder
Other Disorders (ADD/ADHD, Schizophrenia, Tourette's, ect)
Family Member/Friend with Disorder
Neurotypical

You know, I never look at people's diagnoses anymore.
