Well, personally I'm not a fan because it clutters up the posts trying to get past someone's signature image.

Because on every site I've seen where it's allowed, the signature section rapidly degrades into a noisy, flashing, cluttered area that is quite often many times larger than the post it accompanies.
I much prefer it to be treated, plain and simple, as a signature - not some sort of art gallery. (There's a whole forum especially for that!)
