Has WP been hostile to gays?

I recently joined a support group(which I haven't been able to attend because the meeting times conflicted with my work schedule.....and I hate driving and am shy)so.......
Someone ,I have never met,asked the group for information about gays,lesbians,bi-sexuals,who have AS and might be interested in contributing information for an article in the "gay" press......I said,via email,that there might be people at WP who would be interested in contibuting.Her response was that you couldnt pay her a million dollars to come to WP because people had called her very negative names here and the Moderator had not been supportive to her requests to have "offenders" banned.I was just wondering if this has been a problem here...I have only been here a few months.I mean,I realize there will always be some "jerks" on any forum,but I havent seen a lot of bigotry towards sexual preference....perhaps it happened before I arrived?

Now I am a little nervous about going to this group at all...as I well be viewed as the "evil WPer"She didnt even thank me for at trying to help and seemed to be kind of a hostile,bitter person.I know we have discussed the "sexism" issue into the ground....but have others felt like there is bigotry towards sexual identity here....maybe I missed something when I blinked?

I have not observed that to be the case and I'm prepared to stand against any such behavior.

Like Mr. Mark, I haven't observed any such behaviour.

Again, like Mr. Mark, I am prepared to take a stand against it to what extent I can, if the need arises.


However, I am a little suspicious of this person.

WP is made up primarily of aspies so I would imagine we would know already what predjuice is like and would be very careful not to be like that.

My first thought would be to ask whether this was more of a case of avoiding sources without official/acedmic credtials that still know what the **** they're talking about.

On the other hand, just because I haven't seen it, doesn't mean it hasn't happened.


I mean, most people haven't eaten a pheasant (in my class). It doesn't mean they're inedible.

I find it hard to believe that a person could do something bad enough to get a request
for their banning and not get banned.

Look its rather simple Krex get her old user name. Then use a search function to
search for her username. Click on one of the links and then her profile. Read her old
posts the last ones should have the offending things.

My guess a very small number said somethings that hurt her. Most people treated her nice. My guess she was being over-sensitive to like most AS people.

As far as how AS people in general will treat their gay AS brothers and sisters. I think
they will be fair and understanding. Many aspie get falsely labled gay so they may
feel hyper-sensitive to talking about it. Some aspie may have extreme religiuos
obessions and the whole anti-homosexual vibe that intails. But I have not ever seen
something that seemed like hate related to homosexuals here.

I do feel in fairness if WP members are being labled bigots(I know she does not mean
100% of us) we have a right to know the facts of her charges. Her username for example.

Wel,I dont know her...not sure she would give me her user name but I can email her about it...she said specifcally that she was called a...."fat,ugly Dyke"...which seems pretty harsh but even the few jerks I have noticed make personal insults end up being booted for it.I guess I am a little paranoid about her because she just joined the group and seems to be trying to get a lot of pro-action things going...I am not against that on priniciple but I tend to hang back a bit at first.Dont know why,but something smels abit fishy in Denmark.

Well I saw this lady on an ADHD forum site say she has a friend who had a nephew
who was killed in a Ritalin drug study(a 20 year study!! !! !! !! !! !). Anyway there would be
records of such a thing. Many asked for details. You can not make extreme statements
in a public forum without either providing facts. If a person said those things depending
on the context I would say their is about a 99% chance they would be banned. I will
do a search for the term "Dyke"

I see a member called Sean was banned and said some anti-gay things. No way with my ADHD am I going to read
a 600 post thread to find the details.

You told us you were somewhat computer illiterate. I'm glad they helped you out. Remember the power of a clever search, it will serve you well.

As far as I'm aware of, there hasn't been too much degrading of too many population groups. The majority of the frequent members here are on the more liberal side, so they're more likely to be accepting of gays and tolerant of everything.

Yep that looks like the person/flame war in question.

It was one guy arguing with her and she was constantly putting words in his mouth.. of course he was being pretty rude anyways but still.

Apparently after that little war the next day she started whining about why he didnt get banned then quit.

So she quit WP and we're all bigots because one person wouldnt agree with her and she was offended by insults that werent even said they were all in her head.

Yeah shes out of her freakin mind.

The really sad thing is the thread she was going nuclear in was a poll on whether or not being gay was normal and ok or not and only 10% of WP said no the other 90% said it was fine (62%) or it wasnt their business (27%)

Thats much better than the national polls.

I've seen some negativity but a certain amount is to be expected. Trust me when I say gay people can be overly sensitive to such things. We've had to put up with so much crap and some of us don't know how to pick our battles and just end up in battle mode all the time. *shrug*

I am sort of like MrMark also.

Yes, I'm sure, that they have had to put up with a lot of stuff, Dalebert and as a result have to be on battle mode all the time. I'm not saying anything about homosesxuals, more society's attiude towards homosexuals, if that makes sense.


However, due to well...again, society's attuide towards aspies in a school enviroment, I would figure that most aspies, still in schooling or only recently left, have had to put up with the equivalent and so are always in battle mode themselves.


Perhaps what we had here was a scaled-down version of a 'Cold War'?

Of course, I could be wrong.
