Puzzled by left column objects in posts.

I've noticed that in the left column of posts to Wrong Planet forums, a word always appears (usually the name of different types of birds) above a row of squares, and one or more of the squares are usually high lighted. Can anyone explain why we have the name of a bird, or other thing, and these squares in the left column of our posts?

By the way, I like this site, and have been visiting it for a year or two. Even so, I am still learning my way around the different features. It took a while before I was ready to respond to other posters, but I have been doing that, too, for a while now.

The bird is rank which changes depending on your post count, after 1000 posts you can set your rank if you wish.
The icons under that is nearly the same thing but in images, again more posts gets you you different icons where maximum is 5 highlighted boxes I think.

Thanks for the info Snowy Owl. Personally, I don't pay any attention to rankings, I just post when I have something to say, or need to ask a question, but at least the mystery is solved. Mostly I just read some of the posts by other site members. It has been of some help to me with my own Aspy struggles. Fortunately, my coping methods help most of the time.

Anyone know where to find the descriptions and the post counts for each one. I have been on WP quite a while but I don't know this system. It bugs me a little. Where is the info page for this? It is solely based on post count or does time since joined matter?

On this I listed the post ranks and how many posts you need for each, though it was back in July now.
It is solely based on post count and is usually defined by the administrator.
