Limit new thread starts to 1 thread per day, per member?

Some members start multiple threads every day.

Its annoying, often just personal grievances, indirect bullying and trolling.
These members become intoxicated and drunk on the high of thread starting, which starts a hormonal roller coaster ride in their body. WP upper management, would be kinder to these endorphin addicted aspies by enforcing a limitation on re offending thread junkies....
Anyone else keen on a 1 thread per day limit?

Otherwise, its only a matter of time before troll boy pens threads like:

'Anal sex cured my assburgers'

'Do aspie farts smell worse than NT farts?'

Honestly, some threads have the most inane/boring/stupid topics. Its like prime time television

Might be a good idea for new threads.
I agree there is a certain rush involved with posting.

Funny post altogether :)

One thread per day...I don't know...personally for a website like this, I'd have it at two minimum, but I don't think that the forum software can limit the amount of threads one can make in a day anyway.
Not that it affects me, I barely make one a month :P

I'm pretty sure this is actually possible with the current forum software. It's it's along the lines of a spam control, that allows for limiting how often users can post.

Usually, a period of around three minutes is sufficient to prevent spam robots from repeatedly posting new threads. One per twenty four hours seems too restrictive to me. There are plenty of users here who have decent questions or comments to post more often than that. Why restrict them because of the few who abuse? That doesn't seem fair to me.

There is also the question of free speech, which is highly valued on WP. The mods tend to err in favor of it more often than not. It takes quite a bit of tom-foolery to ban a member.

We already have systems in place to deal with posts the type of which you describe. If the posts are inane, childish, or whatever, report them in the Moderator Attention sticky thread at the top of this forum category. Ask them to move it to the appropriate forum, which would probably be, in most cases, the Randomness forum. Pretty much anything goes there. That is what that forum exists for. Random inane questions and thoughts. If people want to post stuff like that, there is the place for it.

Alright, you can limit the frequency of any posting, but you can't just for new topics, or so I believe. I've seen that sometimes people do go a little over the top, but I do agree that only one thread per day is a little low, particularly across multiple subforums.

^ Well I didn't specify a number did I?
In any case, I do think things should just stay as they are anyway. If people do go over the top with posting new threads, then the moderators should see to it accordingly, if that is required.

Surfman, if you find someone else starting more than one thread a day to be annoying than it is you who has a problem. Not the thread starter and not those who choose to post in the threads. At 48 years old you have had plenty of time to learn that the world doesn't work the way you want it to. You could start your own forum and lay down very draconian rules if you want.

If you want to be bombarded with inanity, thats fine.

You will end up with a website attracting juvenile mentality, prime time jargonism, and catering/propagating the lower common denominator

oh wait.... I forgot.....is that the plan?

What bugs me about this is when a new member posts the same OP in several different forums because they want to be sure that someone will respond. A recent cluster of threads on oxytocin comes to mind.

However, I've resolved to simply keep a list of members to ignore. So when I see that when a thread is started by a person on my list, I'll try to ignore the entire thread. If I see the same person has posted in a thread I've been following, I'll try to not reply directly to any of that person's posts.

The most effective tool for ignoring spammers, trolls, and attention whores lies between a person's ears.

(Post #9999 - the next post of mine is #10,000!)

yes yes yes

I am of a disposition that cares much more than most people

hence my apathy imperative

I am trying to improve the site for everyone, especially newbies who haphazardly get sucked in to the trolling

Why I care about you guys I dont know
