Why do I have to display my gender? Why is this important? I am sure there are quite a few people who do not feel comfortable with this. I propose that there should be a choice on this matter.

I had to display my gender on my signature because my nickname makes people think I'm male.

Also there seems to be a lot of homosexuals on here, and if a gay man has got a girly sort of name and a girly sort of picture, they might be assumed that they are a female, and it just all gets confusing.

It would be all fine if this was a dating site. There should be an option to classify oneself as neither male or female, fwiw. I only wish a possibility to have some privacy on this matter.

People only see gender if they bother to click for your profile. In regular posting no one knows ... and that actually causes a few problems when I address he's with she's and vice-a-versa.

In some discussions gender is highly relevant. In others, it is meaningless.

I guess it couldn't hurt to have a "choose not to disclose" option, but I'd be surprised if you can get that placed very high on Alex's programming "to do" list.

But that is not that difficult to do either. I am just very surprised that no one sees this the way I do. Oh well.

I just checked my profile setting, and I think that I could change my gender every day if I wanted to.

It's Tama from Nyan Koi!, so I haven't heard that before. Who does he look like to you?

That would be unkind as "it" is a pronoun reserved for objects and not people. The implication would be that the person in question would be better classified as an object. The "singular they" would be the preferred pronoun where the gender is unknown, in my opinion.
