I am writing regarding the new forum "Mature Asperger's Related Issues". I think that this is a very good idea. Forum's description suggests that one should email Alex to arrange a way to prove one's age. However, I thought that it might be better to ask the question on an open forum, which would spare Alex from being inundated with emails from everyone, repeating the same question. So, how do I prove my age?

To be honest, I haven't really figured out how to verify this. Someone suggested that I require people to buy something from the store, although this doesn't prove age and it forces people who should get help for free to spend money before they can get help which isn't right and definitely goes against the philosophy of this site. Maybe you could prove your age by citing some tv show that only grownups would know about, although tvland has a lot of old shows so kids would still be able to know.

Apple uses the honor method when giving out Education discounts (I think; its possible that they actually call your school and ask before they ship the computer, but i doubt it). Maybe the honor method, coupled with something else that makes it just a little harder to get in when you shouldn't would work.

Actually, I think the honor method could work as a standalone method as kids who want to see innappropriate material are probably going to be trying to break into something other than an Asperger's syndrome mature discussion board lol.

This is a hard one for me, because I'm a very flippant person

The best way I can think of would be to send scans of documents that one would only spend the time to drag out to prove your age to gain access, like maybe a scan of your birth certificate and your drivers liscense/state ID card.

Hmm... This way I probably wouldn't qualify even for Kid's Crater, because I don't know any American TV shows from before 7 years ago, and among newer ones only a few, as I watch TV very selectively.

With this idea the problem is that none of my documents actually says "Magic". Another thing is that at this point I would prefer to remain anonymous (as much as possible, anyway).

Ahhh, I have no idea. :( Look at us grown-ups attempting to break into the empty forum, the only attraction being the label "adult only". LOL! :D

Exactly. Some kids like me watch TVLand, so we'd know some old shows. Believe it or not, the first season of The Addams Family started before my mom was born! (Yes, I like to put sidenotes in my posts.)

IANAL, naturally... but, how about a simple boilerplate displaying:

Quote:
"This forum may contain mature content that parents may not wish their children to see. By entering this forum you acknowledge this and agree you are eighteen years of age or older or have permission from a parent or guardian to view the content stored within."

with a Yes/No or Agree/Disagree?

This would essentially formalize the 'honor' approach, while making sure someone is consciously attesting that they have been warned explicitly and agree to proceed anyway. I don't know how dangerous this is from a legal standpoint, it seems reasonable to me, but the ways of lawyers and litigious types are foreign to me. :?:

(I would've used <blockquote> there but it looks like it doesn't work, so, bbcode quote will have to suffice. :))
