I haven't been on WP regularly for several days now. Yesterday, for the first time, an audio advertisement was playing while the WP page was loaded. Today I got another one. What's really weird is that the ads don't seem to have anything to do with what's displaying on the page.

I forget what the ad was yesterday. Today it was an ad for Lysol, but there were no Lysol ads on the page. I do use Adblock Plus, but it's disabled on WP out of respect for Alex, as well as my own curiosity for what is being advertised here.

I'm just curious as to what has changed recently that might be causing this, or if Alex is even aware this is happening.

Anyone else noticing these?

I remember a handful of people complaining about audio ads a couple of years ago. Don't know why they came then went again. They did freak out a few people though when the sound suddenly came out! Personally I use AdBlocker on all sites so never see or hear any ads anywhere.

I do use ABP, but have gotten into the habit of turning it off on sites like WP, and non-profits. Wouldn't be such a bad thing if I used a laptop, but this is a Digital Audio Workstation hooked up to a pretty powerful sound system. If I make the mistake of leaving my overhead speakers on (300 Watt Cerwin Vegas on a 50 Watt amp, right under four bedrooms), it can be a real shocker at 3:00 AM. 8O

Thankfully I haven't woken anyone up just yet, or given myself a heart attack. Until now it's been more of a "WTF is that?" situation. I thought they were pop-unders at first.

I live in rural France, miles away from technology and am stuck with dial-up internet. Adblocker is an essential for me or the graphics in adverts hog most of the limited bandwidth making the internet virtually unusable. Even with Adblocker some sites are so full of high resolution graphics they are appallingly slow and virtual no-go areas - even Microsoft.com is unusable!

Yeah. I used it religiously, even with DSL. DSL here in New England was pretty fast at first, but it didn't take long for a lot of web sites to overload it. I have cable internet now, and even that gets slow with some web sites these days. I can't even imagine going back to dial-up now. No question that ad blockers and filters are essentials with dial-up.

I usually have my speakers off but if I got and noticed an audio ad (anywhere) I'd be outraged.

Well, it only happened twice last week, and haven't happened since. Sometimes advertisers code stuff like that against the rules of the site or program that handles and distributes their ads. After a complaint, the provider removes them from their database and you don't hear them anymore. Alex can't totally control that.
