It is really annoying. It used to be twice, but now I have to click it several times for it to go back, and if I click too many it goes back further than I can't get it forward again. Sometimes it becomes a pain depending on what you've lost or what you're trying to do.

I only need to click once on all the other websites, it's only WP where I have this problem. And I've just got a new laptop with all the newest software and updated internet browser, so it's not anything to do with that. I have installed Google Chrome, but it isn't anything to do with that because I installed it last week and it's only started doing this today.

Does anyone else have this on WP? Is there a reason for this? Is there a way to stop this without too many complications?

Thanks.

I hear tell that Alex has been doing a lot of updates on the site. You may see some occasional weird things like that during the updates. I don't know whether he is finished with them yet.

EDIT: You would probably be better off to use the site's navigation links instead of the browser's back and forward buttons. There are page next and previous links in individual threads, as well as "breadcrumb" links (at the top of forums and threads) that you can use to return to the forum you are in, or the forum index. Sometimes even those will glitch if Alex is doing updates, but they often work better than the browser buttons not only on this site, but also on many other sites as well.

The culprit is the ShareThis plugin. Please fix. :) Thanks.

I get that with IE but not with Chrome.

I use Chrome on Mac and don't see the problem. Sounds like a conflict with IE.

Hmmmm. Other sites with the ShareThis plugin have started doing the same thing.

ShareThis people must have made a change without testing it thoroughly.

Stop using the Back button then. You should only use it when you want to go back a static page or two back. Don't use it for forums and other pages where things constantly change almost every minute.

Make use of tabs if needed.

I noticed this with IE yesterday, Tuesday, January 31.

I sometimes also use the go back arrow when I go to my page of recent posts and check if people have responded.

That's a good point. Browser back and forward buttons are notoriously unreliable in forums, exactly because of the constantly changing page content. It is much better to get in the habit of using the site's navigation links. That way you are always getting the most recent page content.

why not right-click atop the navigation arrows atop the left side of the browser panel, bringing up the pop-up menu with the history of all your urls you've most recently viewed, and just click on the page that you want? granted, my only experience is with IE9, but i would hope that all the browsers have a similar facility. do they?

Sometimes the back button is useful when you're looking through your recent posts you had made the day before to check for any replies and you click on one then click back and the page stays at the last post you had clicked on. If I don't press back but get back on the page through a favourite or tab, the page starts from at the top so I got to scroll down and look for where I was upto, and sometimes it makes it awkward. Otherwise, I wouldn't use the back button.

Not use back? You all are crazy or do not have a thumb button on your mouse..

Easiest workaround if you're forced to use IE is to middle click each link. That will open each thread in it's own tab.

Best solution, IMHO, quit using IE and get a real browser! :P

(I have a thumb button. I'm all thumbs, so it's disabled. )
