Well, I just came to the WP fourms to look around and an ad for the new movie The Lorax started to play at the bottom of the page. It was very loud and startled me. I could not pause it, I had to wait for the 35 second ad to play even though all I wanted to do was stop it. This happened EVERY TIME I went to a new page on the fourms.

Please fix. I am using firefox if that matters.

Easily fixed by getting the Adblock Plus addon for Firefox. I wouldn't be without it.

I have to agree with Ken, this ad is incredibly disruptive. I dont use firefox and refuse to install plugins to compensate for disruptive advertising...

Well, ABP works. Ads pay for the site. No ads, no site. Alex can't control every single ad that displays on the site without removing ads altogether.

You can either choose to do something about it, like installing ABP or choose to put up with the ads. ABP is free, virus free, and perfectly safe, and takes only about a minute or two to install.

Don't know what else to tell you.

A good reason not to install an ad blocker actually. In fact there have been a few times that I have clicked through ads (I generally click through interesting ads at sites that I want to support since who knows maybe it'll turn up something interesting... I think I did read an interesting article about diagnosis once in one of them, but cant remember the site for sure)

What could be done by Alex or whomever helps with administration/finances (although I assume it's all him) is to relay the issue to the ad vendor, to let them know that advertisements with audio drive traffic away from the site, which will result in less ad revenue for them not just here but other places.

However... so far I have not seen the advertisement again. So my guess is even if he hasn't told the vendor that there have been enough customers who have.

My intention in mentioning that I also have had this issue is not to get advice from those who have patches to bypass the issue but to assist in reporting disruptive features on the site. Chances are this sort of thing will affect a lot more than just 2 users so I am happy to also report that I haven't seen it happen again yet. :)
