Just a heads up that Barnes & Noble has apparently added Wrongplanet.net to it's list of blocked sites for their in-store WiFi service.

Normally I browse the site from there while I am writing at their local (Holyoke, MA) cafe, but today it started coming up as "Access Restricted". I immediately tried it on my phone's 3G connection and the site came up just fine. Nobody I talked to at the store could give me any answers, nor could they give me contact information for anyone to question this about.

This change has to be very recent as I was able to access the site from their store just yesterday with no problem. It is only today that it started.

Thanks for the report, I'll look into it.

EDIT: It appears that barnes and noble outsources their WiFi to AT&T, which is pretty common. It's not surprising B&N has no insight into their wireless, as it's managed by a separate company.

I'll see if I can get in touch with anyone from AT&T to discuss the issue.

If anyone else notices a B&N location that blocks WP I'd love to hear about it. I was in Seattle a few months ago and spent an entire day working on WP from B&N there, but I don't really ever go to bookstores, so I don't have much insight. I might just have to stop by after work to see if this is a national thing or not.

Weird, this reminded me of the April Fools joke OliveOilMom pulled. Coincidence except this time it's a bookstore that did it than a public library.

And that April 1st has already passed.

When it happened, I actually started getting worked up because it was disrupting my normal routine. I have been going to that B&N on weekends with a netbook I bought specifically to write a journal in so I would have something extra to send to the neuropsych I'll be seeing soon. Part of dealing with being out in public while writing the 57 pages I have come up with so far (since the end of january) has been to catch up on here. It's not really the same when your only option is an Optimus V phone...

Good for you for your 57 pages. :D
