Hi All!

Alex (Plank), I'm hoping you have the opportunity to see this thread and that it's not too personal of a question.

I am wondering, what do you plan on doing in regards to wrongplanet.net should they remove Asperger's from the DSM?

I have a website that is about Asperger's (my son has Asperger's and I was officially diagnosed a couple weeks ago after several years of suspicion that I have it) and I'm wondering what I myself am going to do when (and I say "when" because I totally expect that Asperger's will be removed) it's removed and supposedly no longer exists.

All of us who are already familiar with and identify with Asperger's will probably always refer to ourselves as having Asperger's but what about kids/adults diagnosed after the DSM-V comes out?

If they're not told that they have Asperger's Syndrome then do you feel it's going to have an overall impact on websites that are designed for Asperger's?

I refer my website visitors and other people to your website constantly.

So I'm just curious.

Thank you!!
Diane

They are only changing the name and adjusting the criteria slightly. Asperger's becomes mild autism. Why should Alex have to do anything about WP?

Sorry it took me so long to get back. Life happens... :\

I don't mean that Alex HAS to do anything with his website, I was wondering what his plans might be in regards to the phrase Asperger's no longer being included in the DSM.

But I guess it probably wasn't a great question because WrongPlanet.net is about both Autism and Asperger's rather than just Asperger's.

My concern lies with newly diagnosed people not hearing the words Asperger's Syndrome which would mean that any websites that are focused directly towrads Asperger's Syndrome may not do so well (me included). :\

It was just a question. I wasn't looking for Alex to have to do anything with his website, I was just curious as to if he had any plans (but that was before I realized that the "tagline" says "Autism and Asperger's").

I hope that I didn't offend you RazorEddie with my question, I didn't mean to offend anyone and I apologize if I did.

Diane

No worries. It takes more than that to offend me :)
I think the term Asperger's Syndrome will be around for quite some time yet, especially as not all of the world uses DSM. It will probably slowly disappear but not for quite a few years.
