We are the NT's!

I was finding the discussion fairly interesting (aside from a few rants). At least the moderator should include a message as to why a thread was locked. Or send the thread creator a PM. I don't recall ever seeing a thread locked before, and it seems like it would require a very serious transgression.

Apparently some thought it was an age-old discussion? As a relatively new member here that is news to me.

Even in a few short posts I found some interesting and thoughtful alternatives that gave me food for thought.

I locked it for the reason stated, and that reason was perhaps best expressed by this post made to the thread and the general support it received from other posters: http://www.wrongplanet.net/postp4636570.html#4636570

just to add to that... it's an interesting idea but it is basically proposing that aspies are better than NTs (more evolved). we don't really want people going down that road if possible, just like we wouldn't want people to say that Brits are more evolved than Italians, or black people are more evolved than asian people. threads like yours could make NTs feel less welcome on the site as they promote superiority of one neurology over another.

hope this makes sense.

Thank you, hyperlexian. I did not have a chance to respond in that thread that I learned a few things about other people's perspectives.

My ultimate goal was maybe to suggest to people that have a problem with being aspie look at it in a more positive light. The message was apparently perceived not quite as I intended.

I have no problems with the mod's decision to lock the thread. It was a good decision, however it wasn't obvious to me why the thread was locked. Stating that thread was "pointless" was unhelpful because lots of threads are pointless.
I think it is important to explicitly state something like:

The thread is now locked because of:
( list violations of TOS)

I noticed this is done sometimes and other times not. My suggestion would be to always state the reason for locking a thread.

Again, I am not disagreeing with a mod decision, just suggesting an improvement.

I'm going to piggy-back on here and ask why this thread:
http://www.wrongplanet.net/postx198558-15-0.html
was locked. The mod post only says that the OP's view was very offensive, but all that was being discussed was the efficacy of foreign aid, and the discussion was going quite civilly. Is it now against WP policy to opine that foreign aid does more harm than good?

Well, I read that thread and while I may agree or disagree with some of the opinions on foreign aid to Africa, that thread was just locked because it offended the mod (that was the stated reason). I disagree with the mod's decision here. There did not seem to be a TOS violation and if there was one, it should have been stated.

I realize the mod job is a thankless one (they are unpaid volunteers--I think), but my purpose is to suggest an improvement--not to start an argument.

Dox, you have made it clear time and time again that you have a personal problem with me that goes above and beyond my actions as a moderator, so there is not much point in engaging you anymore. you were the same way before i was even a mod, and now that i am, you seem to have taken me on as some kind of nasty little project - just like you did with most other moderators in the past.

EDIT: i went back and found that there have been few moderators to be exempt.

about the thread, i locked it because it was deeply offensive to decide that people of certain races, nations, OR demographics are less worthy of life. the OP knew it was offensive from the get-go, so there should have been so surprise it was locked.
