Yes, I have seen that many times, somewhat infrequently though. I can't quite figure out why it does this.
Can someone explain?
The avatar display for each post is stacked in a column, and the width of that column on a single page is determined by the widest avatar on display.
So if someone with an avatar wider than those currently displayed adds a post and it's displayed on the same screen as the other narrower ones then the space used for all the other avatars will expand too.
Before I made this post the column width was determined by the existing avatar widths:
CokaCola: 60 px
jackbus01: 60 px
so the column would remain narrow.
In the screenshot, Moonhawk's avatar width is 64 px and 4 px difference in width between that and CokaCola's avatar is practically invisible.
The width of my avatar is 86 px and so
the whole column has been resized horizontally as a result of this post, therefore the "narrow display" effect won't now be as obvious.
If someone with an avatar of the maximum width (130 px) was to post here then the effect wouldn't be visible at all.
Check out how the avatar column appears here for an illustration of all this:

Both TheFormulaOne and NeueZiel avatar widths are 130 px, therefore the whole column was forced to the maximum width by the first to occur.
