Hi, I've having this problem for about two weeks, I can't connect to any of the sub-forums.

I can get to the main forums page, http://www.wrongplanet.net/forums.html, but not to the sub-forums, also, I can't go to the Login page, it also returns an error.

I can browse the forums and login using a router called Tor, but it's very slow, and I don't know why suddenly my connection to the forum started to fail.

any ideas?

Sometimes, when my connection's down. I don't go on Wrongplanet for a while and try again later. If not later, possibly tomorrow or the day after or whenever the connection's up again.

computerlove,
if you are using windows xp(not sure of your OS)

do you use dsl or broadband to connect to internet??? if so, this could be from a number of things

computer bug
modem needs reset
other sites blocked using content adviser

FIXES:
run antivirus, antispy, trojan remover, scandisk and empty tmp windows files, temp internet, recycle bin and history.

defrag the harddrive(s)

turn off modem for 15 to 30 seconds and turn back on (powercycle) and do same for the computer. if this dont work, it may be time to reset the modem,

to do this, on back of modem should be a button or red dot that u have to push a pointed object into (pen)

press and hold the reset button for 15 to 30 seconds and after you do that, open ie and type the following ip address into the browser address bar

192.168.1.1

this is usually a default gateway for d-link and westell modems, when the "site" loads it will prompt you for a user id and password, if you didnt set it up with your isp or modem program the default usually is

user id:admin
password: password

this should now get you to a connection summery page and what u will do is make a new connection
and rename it to isp name and other feilds are for your isp's user id (screenname) and password used for the signing on to the screenname.

sorry if i sounded like a brainless tech from india, lol but i typed above beucase i had exact same problem when i had dsl with verizon(i now have their fibor optic broadband service using a differant and special modem)

hope this helps computerlove, if confused ya please pm or im me by clicking links below next to profile for wp vvvvvvv

It can be a computer bug, a virus, maybe the modem needs reseting, just like doordoctor said. You can run an anti virus, reset your modem. If I were you I would listen to doordoctor directions, she's a genius at fixing things.

computerlove,

another thing i forgot to add, if still not working, call the isp's tech support line and ask them to run a "line test" on the phone line that has dsl on it.

also what can be causing it is server improvements or repairs in your area. every month the isp providers will send techs to the switching station (were network server is located for your area) to do hardware/software improvements, this may take a few hours.

good luck

Hi doordoctor, hi Emily, thanks a lot for the advice, this is very weird, this has been constant for about +20 days...

I have my anti-virus(AVG) and anti-spyware(spybot s&d, ad-aware) updated on a regular basis, so I think my PC (Athlon XP SP2) is clean as far as I know.

Ah, I just remembered this also happened to me at another site (istockphoto.com), and it turned out that the range of IP's addresses that I'm in was blacklisted because of spam!
I connect trough cable modem, and sometimes the IP changes, so I think I have one of the "bad" IP addresses... maybe it's that

well, I think I can live using Tor+Vidalia to browse the forums :P

computerlove, sometimes resetting or when isp does a hardware software upgrade the isp uses a differant hostmask, it happened to me once, i was in irc chat room and everyones liek omg doordoctor is now saying hag.verizon/??? and i had some explaining to do when i was notified of the weird and random hostmask from verizon dsl provider in the chat.

as for the blacklisting, u can try to call the isp tech support number and tell them there that yu use the sites for legit purposes and maybe company will change its banning policies to IP ban not ISP banning.

another sign of the isp banning is when you email someone and the email and the reply dont come back.

all i can tell u at this point is to wait for isp to change the hostmask of its network, if that dont work its isp banning that is the website's fault and to fix that tell tech support of isp about the problem and they might talk to website webmaster.

good luck
