Strange question

I would like to know what the difference between www.wrongplanet.net and cdn.wrongplanet.net is. Both versions of the site appear to be exactly the same, but if I'm logged into one, the other doesn't register me as being logged in. I know that this is a really stupid question, but I'm very curious as to why two separate versions of the site exist.

Content Delivery Network.
It's a means of ensuring site content is more efficiently and more reliably served out to users where, instead of relying on one server at one location, the content is made available from several servers at different locations. WP is currently using CloudFlare.
