It would be nice to be able to flag a subject/thread so that it will always be considered as read.

What do you mean? I think that's what sticky threads are for.

I think what he means is that there should be a way to mark a thread that you are not interested in as read all of the time, even if there is a new post.

The way things work now, the only way to make a thread as read is to actually go into it and that gets annoying after a while. There are threads that I like to look at and others that I have no interest in at the present (maybe in the future but not now).

Yes, LJ. There are some threads I'm just not interested in reading, and I would like messages in those threads marked as read immediatly so that they don't turn on the "new messages" icons in the forum or topic indexes.

well that's alot to ask.

There are very few forums that that happens with? I'm sure it wouldn't hurt to open it and close it inmmediatley.

One thing I do to semi-solve this is to read the posts I want to read. Then up the top right hand side of the threads page there is a 'Mark all topics read' choice.

Hope this helps

I do that when I'm at home, or else use the "Mark all as read" link. When I'm away from home I use VNC to see my desktop. Even when set to 8-bits with jpg compression it still takes a few seconds for each screen update since the packets have a 6000 mile journey from my house to the gateway and back to where I'm sitting. BTW, "Ignore thread" is actually common, or at least it used to be before the software on this site became ubiquitous. On some messaging engines (like slash) you can even select categories of topics to ignore and then you never have to see them at all. Anyway, you are right to point out that there are more urgent problems. I feel another bug report coming on....
