Request for a new forum in the coping with life section focusing on housekeeping, gardening, building and other Do it yourself jobs. A forum where people can talk about how they maintain their house or garden and share tips on anything else.

Thanks, I appreciate your support and I think it would also help others that are trying to maintain a home or build independence skills when it comes to housekeeping or maintaining a house.

This could fall under the broader umbrella of the idea I've had for a long time; a lifestyle and living skills forum. Dealing with ALL facets of living independantly such as finances/money/budgeting, moving out of home, food & cooking, home DIY stuff, cleaning, housing, tenant advice, gardening, automotives, consumer complaints, yadda yadda.

Sounds like a great plan, I think the moderators should give this some serious consideration as the votes are tipped in favour and I feel that it would be helpful for many people that require lifestyle and living skills.

OliveOilMom started a thread for just that: a living skills thread, to see how the idea would float. There appeared to be some initial support but it died within a week or so.
Also, only Alex can create new forums.

Ah hmm, now you're asking...
I thought I'd bookmarked it but apparently not. I'm sure it was over a year ago though so it's probably better to PM OliveOilMom and ask her.
The most recent cooking/life-skills forum request I remember popped up here, in Oct 2012: http://www.wrongplanet.net/postx213478-0-0.html
No-one appears to have created a thread as an attempt at getting something moving and demonstrating popularity, so ...

There was an even more general suggestion of a hobbies forum; it also died out.

Also, TallyMan! Hadn't noticed his new avatar, it seems so... ominous.

Yes but this isn't just living skills, cooking or interests & hobbies, it's a complete overhaul and focus on more diverse areas such as building, automotives, housing, financial issues and other areas.

I think the threads held a noble effort but they were not exemplary towards the type of idea I'm talking about, this will be a more structured and organised forum focused on helping others.

Not only that but I would be an active member of the forum and so would many others in support of this idea as it has been shown by this thread and regular forum members that I talk to on Skype.

I understand that your idea would simply incorporate cooking and other life-skills as a a subset of a wider purpose but maybe having a forum dedicated to such specialist topics as building, automotive, housing, and financial issues would become too specialised a subset for a social support forum like WP.

A dedicated forum is also very unlikely to be created without a clear and demonstrable requirement for it, yet I don't remember seeing posts seeking any particularly detailed help for building, automotive, housing, or financial issues and without such requirement - especially for specialised topics such as these with the possible legal implications involved in providing on-line support for them, and which are already handled in great detail by other sites dedicated to them - the chances of having a forum created specifically for them here are greatly reduced.
While it might be nice to have Aspie versions of the AA, or the Federation of Master Builders, or Barclays Bank and whatnot built into WP, it's also moving far outside WP's remit.

Again, it's not a decision moderators are able to make - but given the general reluctance to add forums for other topics which seem more directly related to the membership, I wouldn't be too hopeful. That's just the way it is with forum creation here, I'm afraid.

Well I was thinking of a forum for actual issues WP'ers face when it comes to living independantly, ie. it could be like an extension of General Autism or the in-depth adult forum. I think aspies would have more trouble than the normal person obtaining or keeping a roof over their heads let alone building their own from scratch.

Here's my 2C, not that anyone asked.

For help with automotive issues, here's the automotive forum.
http://www.automotiveforums.com/

For help with building issues, here's the building forum:
http://boards.diynetwork.com/eve/forums ... 6221916776

For help with housing issues, here's the housing forum:
http://thehousingforum.com/

For help with financial issues, here's the financial issues forum:
http://www.money-talk.org/

For help with cooking skills issues, here's a cooking skills forum:
http://ths.gardenweb.com/forums/cooking/
As a side note, the cooking forum is a subset of the Garden Web forum.

For help with legal issues, here's a legal issues forum:
https://forums.digitalpoint.com/forums/legal-issues.44/

Unfortunately, these forums are way too deep, intensive and ingrained to be included on WP.
