You may not be receiving all PMs, either, syzygyish. I sent you a birthday PM a while ago, but it sat unopened for 10 days, so I deleted it. You'd visited the site several times in that period, so I'm assuming the PM wasn't visible- or perhaps you just need glasses.

I had nothing I knew would be useful to add...
I'd checked your profile's alert settings and they're set to allow mailed alerts, so everything should be Ok.
I normally don't suggest things along the lines of "try turning it off then back on again" but there are no other options available - therefore: first ensure you only have one window open on WP, edit your profile and deselect these alert settings, then save your changes and log out of WP entirely using the link at the top right of the screen.
Now log in again, edit your profile to allow alerts, save the changes and log out again.
I hope alerts are functional when you next log in but if they're not, I'm afraid have no other tools available to help resolve the problem. That said, you may also find that the problem vanishes just as mysteriously as it appeared...
Also, if your incoming mail is passed through any spam filtering system check to see that mail from WP isn't now being trapped for some reason - and that the EMail address in your profile is valid and functional. (some use a different EMail address for alerts than their usual "public" one)

You were correct about MY gender, anyway, syzygyish. No one's ever mistaken me for a male, as far as I know.

Ok, done that.
Alerts were switched off, the profile was saved, re-opened and the alerts switched back on again, then saved.
It might still be a good idea for you to log out ot WP completely and then log in again. Only you can do that part.
There were some bizarre issues with updating your profile, most likely caused by forum software bugs, and apparently triggered by the inclusion of a full stop in your signature - so I had to tweak that slightly to allow the profile update to complete.
