I think it happened more that once. I quote someone else's post in my post and then later when I look at that post, the quote is no longer there. Why does this happen? I also notice when a post with a picture in it is quoted, that picture sometimes disappears from within the quote.

Is it done by the mod? Or does it happen automatically? Is it done to reduce the post size? Why does it not always happen?

Can you show us some examples?

Moderators occasionally edit posts if they violate WrongPlanet rules (offensive/copyrighted content, for instance).

The forum software also automatically downsizes pictures larger than 800 x 600 pixels, but it shouldn't remove them entirely.

The most recent example is the second post in page 4797 of the "Got Anything Random To Say" thread. I quoted KyleTheGhost's post immediately above. I definitely quoted it. I'm not forgetful. link

The picture post by Moomingirl (two posts above mine) that I quoted in my post in page 23 of the "animals and pets" thread disappeared (the quote itself disappeared, not just the picture). I definitely quoted it, too. link

I always check my post immediately after I post it in order to ensure there's nothing wrong with it. So I actually saw how my post was originally before the quote disappeared later. In both cases I can't see any rule violation.

Posts spotted that quote the whole content of the post to which they're responding immediately below the post to which they're responding, others re-quoting a series of quotes, and those where one image posting is re-quoted multiple times on the same page, may all be edited back to preserve the thread's format/flow and make more effective use of the screen space.

Likewise images larger than 800x600, which the forum software most often doesn't scale correctly, may be tweaked to correct the scaling or converted to a clickable link instead with the same objective of preserving the page/thread format.
