Has anyone else had a box pop up telling you to upgrade your flash player? I got this yesterday and it's a virus. Clicking the cross in the top right corner will run the virus and it takes you to a fake adobe website. If you get this go to task manager and close the pop up from there. After this happened I tried to login to the forum on an ipad but was unable to do so, however this morning I can. I've already emailed Alex as this virus seemed to come from an ad on the forum.

There is very little we can do about malicious ads.

Alex has received complaints about:

Malicious ads

Ads with sound

And so on for over 2 years and has yet to do something to improve the situation.

Our recommendation, which is in no way related to wrongplanet's stand if you read the rules, is that you get some sort of adblocker until alex does something to prevent malicious ads/annoying ads.

AdBlock and not having flash installed helps. Don't think I've ever seen an add on WP.

Agreed, I use the Firefox add-ons Adblock Plus, NoScript and I've unistalled Adobe flash as it commonly gets zero day exploits which are used to sneak malware on computers.

I know Alex depends on some revenue from adverts to run this site, but when the site inadvertently hosts malware from third parties then no way I'm allowing ads which may damage my computer!

Thank you, well since this is an ongoing thing I think I'll stick to the ipad only for this forum. I need to have flash on my PC and don't want to risk getting a virus. Luckily for me my AV software blocked the one yesterday.
