I have not personally been on WrongPlanet until recently but I have been referring people here for years because I've seen that it is a good site and heard so many personal endorsements. It's kind of falling apart and it's really a shame because- though I don't have primary access to usage statistics- it doesn't seem from pure lack of interest. [Though eventually people are going to stop coming entirely because of how the site is functioning and I'd be surprised if it hasn't taken some sort of hit already].
Err... any site really needs to be upkept or it will disintegrate on all fronts. Um. But I've been seeing discussions of a "forum upgrade" going back entirely too long. The last article update was from last december as far as I can tell with no real visible calls for contributors [if there have been further updates or solicitations, they are nowhere near obvious]. The wiki is tiny and untouched with the last update in 2011, and there has been no further info on forum updates and I don't blame any staff who end up to their eyeballs in frustration.
It doesn't take that long to at least do a temp forum which would be massively better in terms of functionality until something more lasting and stable is brought online.
...but it seems the bigger problem is this forum and site as a whole falls low on the list of priorities for the owner [whether intentionally or not]- but if that is the situation, it should be given over to a specific site manager. If it already is? They are doing a piss-poor job.
Yep, being critical here- though not of any of the regular forum staff.
It's just unfortunate.
But also if there is an end-date for the site in mind the users should actually be aware of that.

You pretty much got it, the owner of WP; Alex has had a lot of other things going on. WP just so happens to be on the back end in terms of priority. There have been numerous threads, and responses on an update of the site, including maybe having someone else run it. None of it has actually gone anywhere though.
