Just one more thing I've noticed about the new site. You can no longer see if a member is male or female if you look at their profile even though I still the option to choose you gender when I look at my own profile. That's a bit of a pain because I usually check to see the gene in order to whether to address them as he or she.

When I look at a profile, some names (like mine) are in red, others in blue. Maybe that means something?

I don't think that the colour of the names have anything to do with gender. Mine's actually in black (I'm male) and so are some others who I know to be female.

I too used it. helps to know how to address them and to know if their advice is best. like if you asking for female advice on a topic and get tons of males.

It most likely correlates to how long the user has been on this site. TPP made an observation in another thread that users that joined after February 02, 2012 had the usernames in bold and ones that were here before, didn't.
Likewise the bolded names appear gray (or blue) on a profile and the non-bolded ones are a nice shade of red.

not sure why this is. could it have to do perhaps with the "veteran" badge thing? i found it a bit silly that you could be a "veteran" by posting 500 times in counting threads but that's just me.
but then, how do those relative newbies like me become one, if ever?

It would be nice if they could fix this, I can understand why some people wouldn't want their gender to be public and they shouldn't have to but its a pretty diverse site so you can't assume one way or another if its not obvious.

I wish I could pick something besides male or female or at least not show gender, since I am agender.

[speculation]

It could be that such things as sex, gender, and diagnostic status were not enabled on WP 2.0 because of the controversial threads in WP 1.0 involving sexual identity, gender preference, and self-diagnosis.

[/speculation]

[opinion=mine]

I like the current situation, because it forces me to look at other members as people, and not as stereotypes related to their sex, gender, diagnostic status, et cetera.

I wish people would stop referring to sex as gender. Male and female are sex options.

if you're curious about a missing feature or a bug you should check the thread about the update where all these questions have been answered by me.
