We should let people choose to delete their own posts.

The prime advantage is that then people can write freer and with more confidence. It is similar to when Sears & Roebuck first started as a mail order company more than 100 years ago. They knew that for people to buy with confidence they'd also need a friendly return policy. Buy with confidence, return with confidence, that kind of thing.

(Currently, after like an hour or two, I can't even edit my posts. And I don't think I can delete them either.)

If someone else has quoted a block of text, or paraphrased, then it's going to take a moderator. And I generally think moderators should be willing to do this if they can spare the time.

The 'Members Only' section is private, and everything else is public. We might think about reversing this. And/or having most threads drop off, say, after six months, and perhaps having a section entitled 'More permanent advice and information,' something like this.

I believe you can delete your own posts, but only for about 20 minutes after you post. I know you were able to under the "old" WrongPlanet.

Yeah; I know some forums allow posts to be deleted, or sometimes you can amend or delete the first post but only if you do it in such and such time. But I agree - members should be allowed to have a 'right to vanish' policy.

I would like to at least be allowed to EDIT my posts. It is extremely frustrating when I make a spelling mistake for instance, that annoys me until I can correct it..it is an obsessive thing...so when I cannot it makes things very VERY annoying!!

You can edit or delete you posts within about 20 minutes.

A better idea is to put a lot of thought into what you want to post before you click on that 'Submit' button. Even better is to not post anything that you don't want read in the first place.

This becomes especially evident when your posts are quoted by others in their posts, and those members don't want to edit or delete anything just to please you.

There is no option to edit posts. Even within the 20 minute time frame. I know. I checked and checked and checked............................................................ I do not mind if a person quotes. I DO put a lot of thought and effort into my posts. Not everything can be perfect all of the time., especially when you are trying to write what is in your head coming through at over 60 mph!! ! It is very difficult.

So yes. I would like to edit. Not delete but edit what I have written. I do not understand why there wouldn't be an option to do that anyway. Makes no logical sense to me but it doesn't matter because ultimately, It is still going to annoy ME when I see my mistakes in posts....blahectoomni.

OK I see the edit button now. Now that I know where to find it I will.
I will review my work if I do not have to rush off in 20 minutes. If I do then it will just stay bad and I will still be upset because I cannot correct it.

For me getting it correct is important. I do not always see the mistake until I look again and then it annoys me. You might think this is silly but to me it is important. As I say I will try and review my work within your time frame.

Has 'Wrong Planet' considered enlisting the assistance of a moderator when Wrong Planet posters request removal of older posts?

A moderator would decide whether, or not older posts need to be removed on a case-by-case basis. One example of content under consideration for deletion, might be content whose focus may have been understandable, and valid in an earlier time, and hence may have outlived it's usefulness.

Another example for content under consideration for deletion might be topical discussions which have increasingly become outdated, and disproven. Continued displays of some types of content may even contribute to further uncertainly, confusion, etc.
