Nickname v Username?

When I signed up for a Wrong Planet account I used a username that can imply I am male unless one is familiar with Star Trek: DS9. Since there is an option for entering a nickname in my account is there a way for the nickname to show up on posts as opposed to my username

personally the username function isn't really what i expected. i expected something like custom rank. but it's more than useless, it shows up on the author panel of your browser (yours is OkieDokie?), and as the title when you post on others profiles, but it first has to be set to that on "Display name publicly as".

so there's no way right now to get it to show up on posts, but only on profile if it's visited.
