Can anyone tell me why, despite having 1983 as my year of birth, my profile, as with seemingly others, shows me as 45?

use 00-00-0000 format instead of 00/00/0000 and it fixes the problem

I was going to ask the same question. Thanks for the solution.

that's the only part of the author panel that's been working/displaying correctly. the hyphens thing works, i tried it and has my age displayed for a second until i went back and hid it again (voluntarily this time)

i edited the bit of the FAQ dealing with age to include this...edited a few others as well, a huge chunk of it is just horribly outdated.

How to show your age alongside your Post Count, Location and other details in the Author Panel – the Author Panel is the bit to the left of your post where your User or Nickname shows along with your avatar if you have one ;)

Click "My Account" at the top of the page to edit your profile. Under "Date of Birth", enter your birthdate in mm-dd-yyyy format. Despite what the example to the right may say, you must use hyphens and not slashes, or it will not display correctly in the Author Panel or the profile page.

Some people just put a birth date near their real one, so its clear ROUGHLY what their age is, but without giving their exact birth date because they are cautious about identity theft (although I'd think that wasn't all that big a risk).

Please bear in mind that you can't access the adult forum without giving your birth date and being at least 17 years old.

NB Before posting here, please read the start of this thread.

My birthdate is in the 00-00-0000 format and yet my page still says 45. :?

My posts at least have my correct age in the panel on the left of threads.

Then swap around the month and day numerals and it should work. The format should be mm-dd-yyyy, not dd-mm-yyyy. Believe me, when I had the problem with my age displaying incorrectly, my birthdate was also in the dash format but when I put month and days in the correct order then it worked.

Ahhh -- that worked! Thanks Jono.

I hadn't noticed that in fact mine was day first, month next, UK style. Swapping them around fixed the problem. Thanks for the fix!

Thanks I'll give that a go, my age is showing up incorrectly and there's no option to hide it until it's fixed.

The practice of putting digits for month followed by day of the month then year seems very unintuitive, I've had American clients do it at work and it causes all matter of problems.

Thanks. That worked. The site seems pretty glitchy lately. It says to put it in mm/dd/yyyy mode yet that doesn't work. New avatars are not showing up, the nickname vs the username thing. Pretty strange.

Anyway, thanks for the tip. :)

P.S. And my age is showing up correctly on my profile page but a year older next to my posts. What is going on?!
