I had a weird experience today while reading WP--a message came up saying that some ad-related thing wanted my location info from my device. I did not allow this. Then suddenly the page auto-scrolled to the bottom, bringing a little video ad set in the bottom of the page into view. When I scrolled up to continue reading the thread, the ad immediately pulled the view back down to the bottom of the page. There was no way to continue reading that page without leaving it and coming back to a reloaded version because the ad script had taken control of the browser.

I am in favor of Alex getting revenue form the site, but this is a truly terrible user experience. I don't want to have to block ads, but I don't see any way to keep visiting WP without taking some defensive measure against these malware-like ads. Is there any way you can allow ads on the site but restrict them from this kind of coercive control grabbing?

I am running Chrome in desktop mode under Windows 8 on a Surface Pro 3.

Was this a one-time thing or has this happened before? Is it only on WP? There shouldn't be any ads like that on this site.
