Why are there so many spam threads?

Probably cracked CAPTCHA.

This is why WP needs more people to deal with this stuff, though...

What are these ones advertising, knock off handbags, porn or fake documentation? Ahh WP... its starting to remind me of a black market ebay. I wonder can you get malware from clicking those links...

It's getting rather out of hand really.

This is absurd, do other websites experience this level of spam?

Forum I'm admin on they tend to post just once and that's it. Never seen an attack on this scale before.

Where are the mods?

A possible long term solution to this problem might be that for new members #-number of their first posts first need to be approved by a moderator before it gets posted on the forum. It would still mean a lot of work for the moderation team however it would mean that the normal users would not have go trough dozens of spam-treads to find the more genuine treads.

Added benefit is that it would intercept (the more impatient) trolls. A forum I was moderator on had such a system in place.

I've got nothing better to do, I'd happily offer my services.

I don't think "more mods" is the solution here, you need the ability to mass-delete threads.

On one other forum we have the ability to nuke the spam with one button only...we already mentioned it to Alex, nothing happened.

I honestly have no time nor energy to nuke all 8/9 pages left, single handedly, one by one, I'll nuke the most recent ones.

Managed to mass delete all of what was left. Hopefully they don't start again.
