I've always used all caps in most of my posts because it allows me to see where my posts are, otherwise every post just flows into the other. Would someone tell me why its such a big deal?

I actually like your post up there in all caps - I can see it with no problem and know exactly what the title is.

I like being able to tell with majuscular clarity who thinks their posts are more important than the rest.

Is that what all caps really means? Or is it hard for Aspies to read if it's not like all the others? I think someone else said it was like yelling, is that true?

see? you definitely got my attention!

it's the closest way of suggesting SHOUTING AND YELLING THROUGH TEXT there is. bold just doesn't cut it.

I'll try the bold then. How does one do the bold thing? And is there a way to see responses to just the threads that you have answered? On my own list I have ones that I have answered, but don't want on my list anymore. It's more confusing here than on AC.

select text you want bolded, click on the B above the post form, by "youtube".

yep. top right corner, view your posts. though it is a bit irritating not being able to remove certain threads from there.

Text in all caps generally does and is meant to stand out from surrounding sentence-case text. Moreover, it does so at the cost of some legibility, as the lack of ascenders and descenders makes letters more alike, which further illustrates the priority given to the purpose of standing out.

The rationale you gave for using all caps in thread titles only works if they, in fact, stand out. It relies on other people refraining from doing the same, affording you the privilege of having titles that stand out so you can recognize them more easily. If others did the same, noöne would recognize their own threads by capitalization anymore.

By the way, threads where you've posted have a distinctive icon.

When a see a whole post with a big block of text in caps, it makes it so hard for me to read. I don't know why, I just see a bunch of big letters and it's harder to process what the words are. With short text it's fine vs a big post or a block of text with all caps.

Using all capital letters reads like someone is SHOUTING FOR ATTENTION!

If the contents are interesting enough, there is no need to shout about them.

Otherwise, it's like that one annoying little kid in church who seems to have no concept of an "indoor voice", and who may as well be shouting "LOOK AT ME! LOOK AT ME! LOOK AT ME!" all of the time.

... annoying as Hell ...

i can relate...and many others - apparently text in all caps (or where there are no ascenders or descenders) takes up to 20% longer to read. takes more space, that's for sure, and they are more likely to be read letter-by-letter, compared to in chunks like in lowercase.

high contrast in letter shape may help in reading speed.
