access to a GAD thread suddenly stopped

I was happily reading this thread in General Autism Discussion:

Then I clicked "post a reply" and got a message saying:

"You cannot read posts in this forum"

Which was obviously nonsense because I'd been doing just that. I tried to open the thread again, from the index, and got this:

"You are not authorised to read this forum"

All the other threads continued to work normally. I was still logged in.

Then I noticed that the thread had vanished.

Strange, eh?

I got the same message. It might mean that the topic was deleted and giving the wrong error messaage.

Yes I think it could have been something like that. The topic was started by somebody who thought that the government might be monitoring everything we post and then come and get us. So maybe they figured that posting that would be especially dangerous, and asked for it deleted before Big Brother saw it?

Hmmm.......maybe the "not authorised" message is evidence that the thread was moved to a hidden area. I seem to remember that there are sections of WP that can't be viewed without some kind of special registration. That might help explain why the topic didn't remain on the General section as a "moved" topic - that's what I've seen before when a topic gets moved. Impressively cloak-and-dagger, if so. I hope the CIA won't firebomb my house now that I know too much.

it is deleted, which yes, means simply moved to an area accessible only to moderators, which most likely explains the message. why is beyond me, i was not there.

it is a bit weird and coincidental how quickly the thread vanished after you saw it...

Could have been done at the request of the OP I guess.

Anyway, thanks for explaining. At least I now know it's not a bug.

PS congratulations to whoever it was that deleted the "apply for real passports" spam thread a few minutes ago. I love to see junk ads being killed.
