How do you regard the NECROBUMPING of old threads on WP?

My personal preference is to have a freshly baked thread...
Not one which has been in cryonic suspension...
Easier to follow and easier to be relevant...
"To be or not to be" (relevant)..."*That* is the question..."

Reading thru pages of responses first can be tedious...

If we got rid of the terrible "suggested posts" feature, then there probably wouldn't be too much of a problem.

I do think it's usually better to make a new thread. I see the case for automatic locking after a period of time, but sometimes it is acceptable to necro (e.g. if you are posting something genuinely relevant and are aware that it is an old thread) and I wouldn't want to stop that.

Some people (waves hand) like the suggested posts feature. BUT, it would be nice if it simply had a date filter added. Problem is, do you use the date the thread was created or last updated? Pretty sure the latter is effectively what is in place now & the former would block long running but still active threads like "introduce yourself". I guess the old joke applies if you don't like the 'suggested posts' feature (Patient: "Doc, my arm hurts when I do like this" Doctor: "Don't do like that!")

I like "similar topics" also

None of this on here is real anyway, so to me the date of a thread is irrelevant.

I hope it is kept.

Well yes, but it has massively increased the amount of necroing.

It seems most people like it despite that though.

I think alot of the people doing it don't know that the tread is that old. Me & lots of members don't look at the dates of threads. I think there should be a big notification letting members know that the thread is older than a certain age.

pardon, but it does say the age of the thread on the right side.

It says the date it was posted after it's a couple days old. You have to do the math to figure out how old it is & not every member will look at the right side anyways.

It is kind of annoying....tricks me into thinking its a recent thread that is actually an active discussion, so then I post some well thought out response only to realize I look like an idiot beating a dead horse because that person who posted it 5 years ago has either left the site or they've changed circumstances some since than. Or my favorite when its a thread I've posted in a couple years ago so then I post pretty much the same thing in different wording only to feel like an idiot because no one likes someone who repeats themselves like 'hey, hey, did you know I said that, here let me say it again....oh hey by the way did you catch what I said.'

Basically I hate it because I look like an idiot every time I run into these.....might as well have a big FAIL written across my forehead when the inevitable 'you know this is a necro-post right' comment is posted before I've had a chance to delete my post.

Or even if they are aware they can see how old the thread is....who is going to remember to look at that every single time before responding.

I have to wonder though how people dig up such old threads to necro-post in the first place....seems like it would take a lot of effort going so far back to dig them up. When they could just post a new relevant thread where the discussion didn't end 3 years ago.
