How do I delete posts I made? If I delete my account, will my posts be deleted too?

I'm aware that my username identifies me (and therefore the people I mention) and I don't want people to be able to find my posts by googling my username.

You can not delete your posts if anyone has replied to them, or if five hours have elapsed since you've posted them.

You can not delete your account. You can only be locked out of your account by the mods.

I believe the mods occasionally delete entire threads. There was a thread I responded to just recently that is no longer there (including my response). I can Google it. But I can no longer see the thread (or my response).

He asked only about deleting his posts and his account, not about deleting entire threads that include other members' posts.

Deleting entire threads seems to be done only when a flame war has broken out, or the thread was started by a troll or spammer.

Understood. I only wrote what I wrote, because I am oftentimes surprised (and a bit annoyed) when whole threads (including my posts) get deleted.
