I've been told to ignore a member's posts if they bother me. As an Aspie that is damn near impossible to do without an ignore function built into the website.

Every site I am a member of has one except for Wrong Planet.

I think that it is time to put one in place here. You can't tell someone to ignore another member without them having the ability to do so! :geek:

Yeah, it would be nice. I just tested out the foe feature, but it doesn't seem to do anything in the thread itself.

I think this is needed as well, as the foe feature doesn't do anything if you just want to ignore a poster. On other boards, the foe thing is basically the equivalent of ignoring.

I don't see the point. There was a time on another site when I had blocked several people and ended up having big blocks of posts gone because of it and I couldn't make heads or tails on some threads what was even being said. I'd rather know what people are saying in case they need to be corrected.

I have only ever used a forum ignore function on two people ever. One referred to me as "it" sometimes and said the most insulting and hateful things I have ever seen, and the other thought that just because I am white that I am racist and that I can't comprehend what discrimination is like even though he personally discriminated against me for my religion. I gave both of these people multiple chances to redeem themselves. It's really hard to get on my bad side.

Still though, an ignore function may come in handy for some people.

I don't think an 'Ignore' function is needed, per se; but I would certainly use it if it was available.

Sometimes I need a self/drlaugh ignore on threads I've posted but don't want to look at, but like a moth to the flame... I go...

I'm sure it wouldn't be without its flaws but it would be a feature people would like.
In some boards I'd use it, and others not at all.

It would make my experience here better - I'd use it just to skim past people who routinely go someplace I don't want to go. I'm not that sensitive, but it would save time.

I wonder if it would polarize things.

Possibly. Imagine someone holds an unpopular view but for the most part is well mannered.
Or if someone is emotional, bitter even and they've raised a few hairs but not enough to warrant a ban. The ignore feature would see groups of people ignoring them, essentially alienating users in the place they were supposed to feel like a part of something.

While it's practical to ignore people bothering you, waves of people ignoring others could result in the person being ignored getting worse, depressed and more because they did not receive enough guidance from their peers.

But then, this is just me playing devil's advocate for those who cannot help themselves.
Personally I'd use the feature.

I don't use the feature all that often on other sites. But you can't use what you don't have...
