"You have been blocked from accessing Wrongplanet?"

I'm a little worried.

Instead of captcha I got a red stop/cross symbol and big letters saying 'You are blocked from accessing Wrongplanet'.

Was this just the captcha or was this supposed to mean I'm banned?

I'm not sure and it's the first and only time I ever got it.

It happened when I was going to make a post.

I have since deleted several recent posts that may have broken the rules even slightly. I'm not sure if they did but they are gone regardless.

banned users don't get a cloudflare message, but one saying you have been banned in the typical WP "style" and to contact an administrator.

i have gotten that message several times while carrying out mod duties and i have almost never been able to find the "trigger" that sets it off. on one instance, it was literally a couple of colons and a slash. remove those, and the message went through fine.

I just got that. No idea why.

I got it a couple days ago - I thought I was having a flashback from when I got banned from AC!

Nice to know people who should be banned, are getting some just deserts for a change.

Nobody here did anything wrong.

I shouldn't worry about something the site is never going to stop changing, either hands or protocol for a while.
However, I think there is still something wrong with the cultural climate between North and South of the divide.
Whoever is here in charge though, is seriously buggering up the site. I never remember it being this awful to use.
The wrong person or majority person/s are championing this site, and what would be best is to shut the site down and start again from scratch, as too many errors have been issued in deficit.

for posterity's sake, i am against removing the entirety of the 12 years of rich discussion on this forum. archiving it may be a possibility, an expensive one, but i still hold on to some hope that this current site can be fixed.

perhaps i am naive for thinking that.

many others have suggested additional admins here, and i agree. there might be a few that are interested and have the ability.

I think more admins would be a good idea.
There's some really basic stuff not happening on the admin side.
I don't know whether that's due to the forum itself or Alex/other admins' understanding of its features.

I and others have brought up solutions time and time again which are completely ignored if it involves admin, which is very disappointing. When it comes to moderation on the other hand, you could expect a reply about it from a moderator in the next day or so the latest.

I often wonder if this is because the software the forum is built on is free, whereas anything else would cost money and it is likely WrongPlanet's site does not make a lot of money for Alex.

This is merely speculation but without any concrete answers what else is there to do but speculate?

last i heard the site actually is not free to host.

All the previous creators and admins are gone leaving Alex full responsibility.

He did do some good what with the big visual change back in 2012 or '13 or something, but other than that wouldn't it be fair to say all this Captcha and other bugs were due to him?

Fair enough, I can see in theory why he thought it would help the spam issue...

the move? that was on november 22, 2014.

looking at the mod logs now, cloudflare was a problem before the new site, and one that helped drive three moderators away. but it was nowhere on the scale it is now. bugs were replaced with bugs.

the old site had many problems. it did. but i miss its features.
