The mens form has many women posting in it and IMHO serves no useful purpose that cannot be filled by other forums.

The womens forum was created at the request of women after some insensitive posts on topics like bras being uncomfortable ....

The men's forum was only requested because some members said, well if the girls have their own the we want one too ...

Given Alex seems reluctant to create an additional forum, would you be prepared to have him move the "mens forum" to the "Adult Issue" forum (eliminating the Mens forum) so that a new Over 30's forum can be created without increasing the total number of furums on this site?

I voted yes since all of WP is basically a mens forum :) Where would you move mens forum posts to?

-----

oh re-read your post move them to the adult section would work I guess. Been along time since I read the mens forum. I guess if there is any threads usefull for a general
audience moderators could move them slowly to other areas.

I think people cried and begged Alex to make the women forum and then pedantic men
demanded equal rights is how the mens forum got started.

I would just leave it at an Adult's forum.

Another option would be to combine
the forum games and random discussion,
because most of Random discussion
seems overloaded with games anyhow.
The only real problem is that the games
in the games section seem a bit more
disciplined then what is in the random section.
The damned things are even leaking into
the adult section, after the spanking game
got moved there.

*sigh*

So what happens to the women's forum? It stays?

If you move men into adult's issues then it will become one big, pointless sex chat-athon. Again, I say that adults issues needs to be a more controlled, mature environment. Take a look at the topics there right now...that's not what I call adult.

I know, that was pretty lame.

Make me a mod, I'll sort things out.

Mitch8817 gets my vote to be a mod.

I would leave the women's forum as is. I think it has a purpose and I don't think there has been any suggestion that it should go. I don't see the men's forum does have any useful purpose. Like TM1 says, the whole of WP is like a men's forum.

And I don't want to see anyone excluded from contributing anywhere if they want to. I just would like a forum where we more mature people can discuss babies lost in miscarriage or the effect of gravity on older bodies or whatever without too much distraction of younger people who are not yet at that stage in life.

I tend to agree. The women's forum raises some serious issues that are maturely handled, responded too and dealt with - and with no outside interference or control. They can clearly take care of themselves.

The male forum on the other hand, while necessary (I believe), it could easily be integrated into the adult forum if need be. But I am concerned over the over-maleness that would then be present in the new adult forum - I'm thinking that women will primarily post only in the women's forum and steer clear of the male-centered new adult forum.

Somehow, I doubt that it'll be likely, with that attitude.
Alex has made it pretty clear that he desires a light hand
on such things.

Moreover, an adult-themed section seems necessary.
Though, perhaps splitting adult into two sections, one
for sex, and another for everything else, would make
sense. Which is pretty much what seems to be being asked
for. BUT, I wouldn't count on those who desire it being happy
with the results.

I see a number of ways that it might proceed. It might just
turn out to be a larger version of the dino aspie thread. That's
what many seem to actually desire. It might end up heavily
used, in which case those who want a slow pace, would still
be annoyed. Finally, it might end up another one of these
fairly unused forums (of which there are many), with only
a few posts showing up every day - and actually more or
less end up the death knell to the DA thread. I actually suspect
that the latter is the most likely.

The best way to convince Alex of the need, would be to carve out
a section in one of the other forums. If it becomes too crowded,
then the need will be clear.

Oh, just another quick thought. If you do the integration, rename it 'Women's Issues' from 'Discussion', that way the forum is more focused on it's purpose and there won't be cries of sexism (the description sets it up more as a 'women's only club' currently).

I got am idea Dino's should simply invade the mens forum (Bush style with no global
approval) and take over. Put the word Dino in each thread to show its Dino impact. The old useless male threads will be hopeless dropped down it the stack. Any threads of general usefullness (old non-Dino threads) could slowly be moved by the moderators. Or if Alex decide to make the forum offical he can move them to whereever he wants.

I don't know if the Men's forum is the best choice to
hit with this, but yeah, actually I was thinking across the whole
board, something like this. Make a dino thread in every forum.

And I see your immediate complaint: that you don't want to jump to
all sorts of different forums. Well, the rest of us have to. That's why
we post in more than one thread, as well.

The men's discussion is boring so i vote yes.

Also, anyone who actually wants to be a mod should not be one.
Thats where we went wrong with the politicians.

For the record I think this new Dino aspie forum is going to be super boring to :) I'm
just trying to do my part to help deal with the constant onslaught of people demanding WP reforms. Trying to let as many people get their way without destroying this place.

I'm sure my one opinion won't delete the women's discussion forever, so here it is...

I personally don't go for the women's discussion. Before I became a member, I actually thought there were a lot of women on there who weren't AS because they were talking a lot of girly stuff that I couldn't relate to even caring about...I mean...I don't care when someone got their first period??? (That's not to be harsh, but I don't care).

I've always related to men's discussions better, albeit some are a tad immature...but hey youth is something everyone goes through as well as ignorance...I don't feel the need to burst in there and put down people in either the men's or women's discussions.

I like the adult ones, because frankly, if I go off on a tangent, I don't have to worry about offending a particular gender usually...and let's face it, being an adult is trying to recognise and understand the gender differences. If you don't like the topic...don't go to the thread again.
