getting tons of cookies from WP

so WP is the only webpage i surf (i work all day anway...)

i always notice that it says "waiting for.....___website_______" at the bottom of the window... anytime i click on a new page

i run ACE and one other thing once a week and i always get 5-10 things to remove from my pc.

and i notice that WP always takes forever to load pages and such on days that i'm getting that "waiting for" meesage down at the bottom of my web browser.

what are these and do i have to keep cleaning them? it's annoying me and my WP addiction.

Tracking cookies are relatively harmless. Just use your anti-spyware program or anti-adware (I use AdAware) and just clean them up.

It's probably the ads. They likely charge by the
number of cookies that they place.

The ones the adjustment prevents are not made with chocolate chips. They are made with pain and suffering...and a little bit of cinnamon. There are bad cookies.

No reason to apologize. Had you not pointed me in the right direction, I wouldn't have known it were possible.

Also you can set network.cookie.lifetimePolicy to 3 and network.cookie.lifetime.days to a lower number

network.cookie.enableForCurrentSessionOnly set to true means that it will only store your session while the browser is open. Probably overkill. But if you don't mind the inconvenience of it, fair enough.

Given that the site receives its revenue this way
though, it might be a good idea to allow them,
and set the time-out shorter.

You do not need third party cookies to make revenue. Pay per click work on clicks. It is tracked by a referrer in the uri. It is too unreliable to track revenue by cookies alone. Just as it is unreliable to use the HTTP referrer. They only do this to get some additional info.

I presumed that there was some revenue gained
by simply giving exposure. Certainly not available
to ALL sites, but I seem to remember that the
cookies are used for generating revenue. Much
less odious than asking people to click.
