I didn't realise men could even view that section of the site. Only reason I know they can is seeing a male name as the last post.

Not trying to white knight here, but when the description of the section says "A place where women can feel safe to be themselves", I'd have to question the logic of any male who doesn't think it's disrespectful and intrusive to read or post in there. The whole point of that section of the site is to have a place where women can post without the opinions, machinations and perversions of us males being a worry.

I feel it's a shame that there is no sanctity there. Growing up with Asperger's was harsh but I can't even imagine how much more difficult it would have been had I been born female. Women deserve an enforced "females only" section, and I'm sad that it obviously has to be enforced.

if men were outright banned from that forum, there would be a revolt and it would be ugly.

we tried a "men's forum" once, and it didn't generate as much interest as the woman's forum did. women weren't banned from there either.

we have guidelines set in place about the involvement of men in there. sometimes, a guy's opinion is helpful. it comes off as a bit paranoid to assume every man who posts there does so with ill will, if i read that correctly.

Quote:
2) Involvement of male members.

While Wrong Planet rules do not prohibit posting by men in the Women’s Discussion, men who venture into this forum need to approach any reading or posting they do with an element of respect for the fact that they have just walked in on a conversation that should have little to do with them. This forum is intended to be more friendly to women, and to focus on issues unique to them.

Then open a male section and enforce a male only rule also.

Who could possibly argue that it would be a bad idea, unless they had zero respect for boundaries?

-And I would argue that the very final thing a woman would want from that section, would be ANY male opinion. That's kinda the whole idea of the section.

-TLDR; if you would revolt against women having an enforced female only section of the site, then you are a small, small, small man.

there's no reason to enforce a "male only" rule if there's no "woman only" rule. and i already said that had been tried. there's no interest among the admins in trying again.

people who could tactfully contribute to a discussion there because of relevant personal experience or knowledge, not being blocked merely because of their biological sex. provided they are respectful, of course.

the very final thing the moderators want is more blanket discrimination. people are individuals.

i never said i would revolt.

Every man who posts in there has chosen to ignore a boundary. They're also either ignorant or nonchalant about the fact that male opinion pervades every facet of female life already.

It comes off as a little naive to assume that any man who posts in there has good intentions, knowing it's a women's discussion section, where any male presence removes the very usefulness of that section.

I only made one semi-accidental post in there which was my only visit to one thread some time ago.
I responded and submitted my reply before I realised that I was even in that section. I have since not bothered to return back to that section/thread since it should be respectfully left to ladies discussion.

The women on these boards also mostly seem to not have any complaints about me and there are even several that have referenced me as a nice/friendly person before. They even often agree frequently with what I say.

Yup, basic respect. Women's discussion. IE: Male opinion neither required, requested or invited. Nothing nasty on women's part. No intrusion on some male right to go in to any thread they want. Just basic respect for that simple, utterly deserved boundary.

Dude, you haven't even been here a month and you're already throwing your weight around and talking like an authority on the subject and applying nasty motives to males who might post in there, or even just read.

Which reminds me, I need to go and invade the sanctity of the women's section right now to talk about something that has been very useful to me that if you'd had your way would have been hidden from my eyes.

Lol f**k it I'm going to go there: who are you, a man (I could never genuinely be this sexist), to decide who should or shouldn't go there and to speak on behalf of women on what's wanted?

Not trying to white knight here, but

1) Why does it bother you? I've never felt the need to post there, rarely even look through it, and it doesn't bother me. If guys go posting in there and act like morons, so be it. Let the mods decide how to handle that.

2) Suuure!

Side note: More to the person's point above me: Not only are our opinions unwanted there, they don't need our protection and someone telling them what's right for them and their forum. If they had a problem I'm sure they'd report it or bring it up in the Mod thread (please refer to point 1 of my post).

I must admit that I was surprised when I learned it wasn't only for women. It is weird when discussions in there end up being discussions between two groups of men. Personally I rarely visit and I don't think I've posted there, but in theory some men might have something useful to say.

Yup. Sorry, how long should I wait before I can state the blindingly obvious? Are you suggesting you have life experience that might be useful specifically to women in the Women's discussion section? Because it probably won't be..

For the same reason it would bother me to see a dude go in to a women's toilets?

LOOL... Okay, you did. Let's begin then. a) I don't decide anything. b) Most mods (who the decision rests with) are men c) My own gender is nothing to do with it, but thank you for reinforcing my point. Try formulating arguments instead of whatever the f**k that was.

Nor does it have anything to do with posting in Women's Discussion.

You don't post in Women's Discussion for reasons that have nothing to do with your gender?
