I've been getting the satellite TV ad, but it never goes away. I have to go back or open a new browser and start over.

No! It happens when I click the next page of a thread and takes over the screen.

no its not a popup its more of a redirect to an ad when you click on a link to a thread or a person's profile.

ill give u an example, go to classmates.com and click on a person's profile, you will see that it displays an ad and has a countdown or a link at bottom saying "skip this ad and go directly to member profile", i got this same action when i was clicking on a thread to read it, then again about an hour and half later when i clicked on a member's profile.

Do you have another example? I don't want to sign up to that.

So it is not happening every time? Hmm weird. It is probably country specific as I've not had it yet.

Presuming there is nothing fishing going on client side It has there possibilities.

1. Alex put it there
2. Somebody who got access put it there. Though they usually they do worse than that.
3. The ad was put on by Alex but there is a remote JavaScript that hides elements. On forum software unless you change it can have common attribute names so it is possible. It seems unlikely that people would stoop so low but I wouldn’t put it passed people.

Oh I forgot one. A Flash ad that covers up content. Come to think of it this is most likely and some of them might consider this semi legit.

edit - The ad I’ve got here is Orange which is a mobile phone network at least in the uk. It has a countdown fairly fast but it is not too obtrusive within its bounding box, no white screen. It has no transparent or overlapping effects that are possible with flash.

Firefox and StopZilla are very good at keeping crap-ware out.
