I have just about had it with the irritating ads on this website, the ones at the top of the pages that move and flash. I know it is necessary to have ads to generate revenue to keep the site going but this is supposed to be a site for people with autism and I am sure I am not the only person who is greatly affected and upset by these images.
Can there not be some selectivity about which ads are used and where they are put?

Use some other web browser than Internet explorer.. Like Opera or Firefox.

I took the EASY way out! I setup all the domain names, that represent the offensive add sites, to point to MY system! GOOD LUCK trying to defeat THAT!

Oh my god I so agree. Those flashing ads mess with my head. I wouldnt mind them if they would just keep still.

And they are just junk anyway. They should say: "Congratulations! You are the 999,999th person to be pissed off by this flashing ad!"

I struggle with them too - whether I use firefox or IE.

Flashing and flickering images is not good for people who have sensory issues!

I also get pretty frustrated about the ones that claim a 'cure' for ASDs.

Someone I know downloaded some smileys that were advertised on here and in their virus scan it came up as spyware! Okay, so maybe they shouldn't have dowloaded it, but she assumed that as she trusts WP, she could trust the ad, and also some people who use this site have learning difficulties, so sometimes things like this will happen unless the advertisements are more tightly controlled.

perhaps I can remove the ads that appear at the top of the forums. And I will try to block more ads. The advertising companies have filters that should be blocking all the flashing ads.

So do I. Those flickering, moving, ads make me seasick.

I keep them out of my sight by scrolling the page down until they're gone.

On a side note, if I had gotten a penny for each time I'm fortunate enough to be the "the 999,999th visitor" on a site, I'd be rich!

I took the easy way out. I got and installed FireFox. Up on the menu bar click Tools and click on Adblock Plus
then click on options and check Enable Adblock Plus. I haven't seen a flickering or obnoxious ad since then.
For a temporary quick fix when there is something flickering hit the Esc key.

The adds drive me nuts too. I hate that they don't stop when I press Esc, but atleast when I press Esc the yellow things at the side of the post stop blinking.

those "cure autism" links on the side of the page are counterproductive... if they worked, we'd stop visiting this site. 8O

I have Firefox and the Script Blocker add-on. It's always bizarre if for some reason I have to enable scripts from WP and, "Whoah, hey, what is this ugly flashing garbage at the top of my screen??!"

But 99.9% of the time, I never even see it. I recommend some similar sort of script or ad-blocking function. It makes web-surfing a little less epileptic-seizure inducing. :)

I have removed the ads from the top of the forums. If you have more problems, I will consider eliminating ads from other placements.

Thanks, Alex.

Those flashing ones were really bugging me too. I don't have trouble with epilepsy, but those sort of ads make it really hard to focus on anything else. And they make me feel a bit sick too, to be honest.

More space on the top for posts! Who clicks on those anyways except by accident?
