special diets, supplements, meds forum
Hi,
Don't know if this would be too controversial or whatever, but could we have a section on diets, supplements, meds? I have been noticing several posts about gluten free/casein free. Would like to be able to find those faster and post questions about it since I am feeling very overwhelmed by the thought of starting. Plus would like to hear if anyone has had success with it or if it is a waste of time.
I believe this has been suggested before and was deemed unnecessary. Not because it's controversial but because the volume of related threads is not sufficiently large to justify an entire subforum dedicated to the topic.
By the way, I understand what you're going through, as I went through the same process of exploration with my son earlier this year. Essentially what I found in my research is that some swear by the diet and others find that it doesn't help. Last I checked, there are few or no reliable studies indicating a strong link between gluten/casein and autistic symptoms. My personal opinion, if you want it, is that a gfcf diet typically includes fewer grains and junk, and more fresh produce and whole foods--this is an eating style that would benefit just about anybody.
There are a number of yahoo newsgroups dedicated to the diet and other related topics. If you're looking for more expertise in this subject than you encounter here, that would be a good place to start. You can also run a google search for old threads on the topic, or start a new one geared toward your particular questions.
Looks like you've been here a long time though. You might have already seen it all!
