how are posts per day calculated?

As an average of your total posts and how long you have been on WP. I would assume.

I thought so. But, I post waaay more than 7.48 posts a day. and I've noticed people who don't post nearly as much as me, have higher PPD's.

It takes ALL of your posts into account. Say, you went through a period that you posted, like 100 posts a day, and then went down to 5 posts per day. It's a simple mathematical fact.
