How's the chatroom work?

I can't seem to work out the chatroom. Do you need to download Java or something to get on it? There doesn't seem to be a proper WrongPlanet one, or at least it doesn't look like it. Anyone here who has worked out the mysterious chatroom and often uses it?

Click on Chat and then click on chat now underneath lightweight client choose a name where it says nickname and then click login,

Hopefully chat in there sometime
