I'm a new user, logged in, and after reading that signature must be in a sig block instead of a post, by the rules, tried to edit my profile to enter a signature.

After all that effort, all I get is a "Sorry, you are trying to access a restricted area" and something like "registered users only"!

And, why would you ask people with any kind of autistic symptoms to use HTML in their signature? This is one of those conceptual things that can confuse some of us!

Thanks in advance.

p.s., what's that "emu egg" that showed up under my username when viewing the post?

I'm not sure about being restricted, maybe you weren't logged in? (ignores logic)

Also, the Emu Egg thing is a ranking. It goes up the more posts you make. The more posts, the grander the bird (it gets to dinosaurs near the end). After 1,000 posts, you can make a custom rank.

No, definitely logged in.

It's my first login from completeing the registration process; could that be the problem? Maybe I need to log out and then back again.

Thanks, John

Nope, logging out and back in doesn't help; here's the error message:

You are trying to access a restricted area.

We are Sorry but this section of our site is for Subscribed Users Only.

Interestingly I was able to select an avatar (but did it stick?)

Oh, it did!

Hmm, well Alex (the site developer and creator) may be able to look into this. In the meantime, our mods here are friendly enough that they will be able to modify it in the time being if they are able to.

I had to reboot into another, newer os (Vector LInux 5.8 ) to access Kate Goldfield's Asperger's web page in a newer mozilla browser, and it suddenly occurred to me that this profile editing issue might be something to do with the older Netscape 7 series browser that I primarily use on my daily desktop (RH6.1, 2.2-24 kernel which is faster on my 500MHz 768MB machine than the newer systems I have installed)

Sure enough, I've just now been able to properly access and edit my personal profile from the current version of SeaMonkey, no problemo!
