Can you make the size of the uploading .gifs to 20kb instead of 16kb please?

Would be really appreciated due to the fact I wish to change my avatar to a .gif which is 18kb and I can't compress it or anything.

Thanks,

Alternative.

'Okie dokie skip?' You know you sounded like Eddie (Adrian Edmondson) from Bottom?

I can't figure out how your GIF can be so large. Are you using some decent software?

I was going to suggest you send it to me so I can have a look at it but I noticed Computing was one of your interests, so figured you're probably good enough to do it without my help.

The offer still stands though.

well, if this is an animated gif, I am not sure about the policy about it here, some people here, maybe most, prefer still images rather than animated gifs, which in the case of a still image, it would be better to use 'jpg', you can control the level of compression in 'jpgs', on 'gif' I believe you can't.

Actually, I second this.

As gbollard says... show us the image, and any one of us would be quite happy to trim it down to under the 16Kbyte limit for you. The GIMP is pretty useful for this sort of thing, and free.

That is, unless it's a complex animated GIF, which as greenblue says, probably won't be welcome to a significant proportion of the members. Personally, I block almost every animated avatar, which rather defeats the point of them.

Ok. Here's the .Gif

Lemme know if you can compress it without losing the animation. ;)

This is it reduced to 16345 bytes... where I though I'd leave it, just out of interest, to let you find out whether the limit is normal person's 16K, as in "16,000" bytes, or the programmers 2^15=16,384 bytes.

Should you choose to use it as your avatar, I would guess rather a few people will either block it (like I do), or skip straight past your posts, without reading them, because the avatar it too distracting.

Image

To obtain this, from your original, I used:

Code:
gifsicle --colors 6 < playingwithfireng3.gif |gifsicle -O2 > try.gif

I.e. I reduced the number of distinct colours to 6 (which didn't seem to make any noticable difference) and then optimised the file.
Further reducing the colours to 5 dropped the size down to 14,275 but lost the pale blue for the puddle. To gain those last 345 bytes, I'd probably delete an odd frame or two from the 55 frames of the animation.

I'd block it merely 'cuz I don't fancy watching an avatar set himself on fire. Poor taste. 8O

Stickmen and smileys want revenge on avatars, so...they wait for their prey to fall asleep, and then... strike!

Oh right thanks.

And all those moaning. So what?

Its my avatar and I choose what avatar I like (within reason). ;)

Sorry, if I sound ever so arrogant, but thats what happens when I speak my mind aloud.
