search broken on my mac

whenever i try to use the forum search powered by google the second i hit the search button it crashes Safari with a KERN_PROTECTION_ERROR thingy... i am running 10.5.1 anyone have any idea as to what this is?

safari is unstable in 10.5.1

actually it works fine for me with the same version of os x.

ok... this is odd... what should i do... should i reset safari's preferences... maybe go in and delete the com.apple.safari thingy...

this is odd... i deleted the safari com.apple.safari.plist and its still b0rked... should i call apple tech support... would they be able to help me?

Try another browser.
Use what works.
I have Firefox for most purposes, Opera for some and Safari for some.

the problem is... autistics do NOT like change... i tried changing browsers before and was only able to last in firefox for about 10 minutes before saying GIVE ME MY SAFARI BACK!! !

That's a blanket statement. I LOVE change. I have never managed to establish any unbreakable rigid routines in my whole life.
If you don't change, how can you better yourself or your life? (If you don't try to change for the better, you don't really have a right to complain if things suck.)

Nevertheless, FF offers a lot over Safari, IMO. Safari is faster and more standards compliant, but that's it.
Tried Opera? It also combines IRC, Bittorrent and Mail and feels rather fast, however the GUI i made by programmers, so it's ugly and unintuitive.

i require the standards compliance since i am a web dev... i also need the seamless integration with my iPhones bookmarks... neither of which FF or Opera offer...

Well, if you're a web developer, you would need all three, plus Internet Explorer.
I do. I even run an emulator to be able to check out my stuff in IE (because that s**t always breaks everything).
A good web dev can't discriminate a big portion of the audience.

Still, you have a problem, I'm the only one offering any solution so far, you won't hear of it because it means doing something that you, in your professional capacity, ought to do every day anyway, so where does that leave us?

A program called AppleJack might help.

It fixes several common problems in OS X. It checks the files on your disk to make sure that they aren't corrupt, checks the disk itself to make sure it's not corrupt, and clears out any cache(temporary memory) files used by your system.

Once you download it, do this:

  1. Open the AppleJack-1.4.3.dmg file.
  2. Click on the Mac logo in the dock.
  3. Open the AppleJack-1.4.3 disk on the left side of the window under DEVICES
  4. Double-click on the AppleJack Distribution.mpkg file.
  5. Once you've installed, restart while holding apple s
  6. Input the command
    Code:
    applejack AUTO restart
    The program will run through its steps and then restart.


If that doesn't work

You can go to the Safari menu and choose Reset Safari...

That would make Safari act as if you'd never used it before, so you'd have to use your passwords to log in again to all of the sites you use.

Know this won't help, but I was curious as to whether this happens with my version of Safari-it didn't. Have Panther 10.3 as OS for my eMac & I'm unwilling to switch browsers. The search function gave message that went to google search, which had no problem turning up results.

Sympathize with your situation in this respect. You may be technologically adept, I am quite the opposite, but can relate to being extremely disinclined to adopt change when one is used to (and generally-not perfectly-satisfied with) a certain thing in a particular way. I've never used another browser (in my almost 4 yrs. of having a computer).

yay! i didnt have to change browsers at all now... it fixed its self with some time... guess it was a temporary bug somewhere...
