Would it be possible to update the rules please... it could be a quick and cost effective way of helping the retention of membership, which is needed, quite urgently.

The changes are needed to address ambiguity in the application of the rules and the associated work around culture.

I second that!

The lowest hanging fruit for ASD is written rules of manners and etiquette.

There is way too much culture warfare going on here. I find it off-putting.

Cultural warriors often ignore rules as they think they are victims fighting the "good fight" and that "the ends justify the means".

Some people seem to be picking fights over nonsense.

I would love to be able to point to the rules in these cases.

People either think they're too vague or not being enforced properly, and that it's allowing people to skirt around the rules and get away with more than they should be. The main issues seem to be in regards to personal attacks and "posting offensive language, comments, etc.", so people think there should be more examples for those or that they should somehow be explained more in depth.

I honestly think the rules are actually descriptive enough, but that maybe the mods should be properly talked to by the admin/decide amongst themselves what is actually breaking them. It doesn't seem like there's enough common ground there.

Lol Fnord, yes I've read the rules, I believe it was one of your many links to them that helped me find them in the first place... I would like to know if its possible to alter them, no point wasting energy on something that wouldn't be feasible to begin with.

Not likely to be feasible.  The mods may confirm this.  Alex wrote the rules with input from the mods and some members when this website was first created.  The rules have been changed as the website has evolved.  What we have now may not be perfect for everyone, but they are the best they can be so far.  The difficulty lies in equal enforcement for everyone and all of the time -- our mods have lives of their own, and do not live (or make a living) for moderating this website.

Besides, only Alex (not the moderators) can actually change the rules.
