And doing so pretty quickly, too. I do appreciate having you as a mod, Quatermass; sorry if I gave the wrong impression in my earlier response to you in the art, writing, and music spam thread. Did you actually ban the guy? His first thread seemed reasonable (though the next 20 obviously weren't), and he may just be unaware of appropriate forum behavior.

I was going to type the person a kind message to point her in the proper direction, but halfway through I hit a certain combination of keys by accident and it terminated my Internet Explorer window. By time I had navigated back, their posts were gone.

You guys didn't ban the perp, did you? Whoever it was seemed legitimate, if only a little ignorant of the rules. I don't think banning spammers is a good first-offense sentence, provided that they aren't doing it to be mean.

Oh, and who is Teru Mikami? Oh, wait... he's probably later in the Death Note storyline, so don't answer that.

8O Wow, all the spam threads are gone already. Justice is swift and decisive here on WP.

Banned. The rules clearly state that you do not do duplicate threads. Plus:

Quote:
3. Other inappropriate content and behavior prohibited on Wrong Planet:
This includes copyrighted material, serial codes, and posts made to promote a website, group or product, particularly if made repeatedly and without other participation in the WP community (spamming). This also includes discussion of locked topics, discussion of banned members and why they were banned and anything else that purposely causes conflict with other members.

I count surveys as being under that, plus his placing them in EVERY SINGLE FORUM.

Well, we just might miss out on an opportunity to enlighten educators to our situation because of this. I'm not trying to cause trouble, just wondering if its a wise idea to jump the gun like that.

I hate people who join up just to inflict surveys on us. It's TELEMARKETING! FFS, this is the stuff you have people ringing you at incovenient times of the day for. It's the BBS equivalent of junk mail. If he had actually participated in WP a little beforehand, then I may have left him one post, and not banned him. But he hasn't, so he has nothing, and is banned. You have a problem with that, feel free to take it up with the other mods, but I'm sure they'll let my decision stand.

Well, you're the mod, so I'm not gonna challenge you on this. Even so,

I don't know if I would have banned so quickly, but then I'm not a mod, and probably for good reason. I have to say I really appreciate how fast you were able to clean that up, even if I don't agree with kicking him off WP.

Most of the time, I give the benefit of the doubt.

I thought only Alex could ban and the other mods had to have approval first from him before they ban a member? :?

Nah, mods can ban members as well. I've seen it on other forums where mods have banned members, so I don't think it's any different here.

I'm totally in accord with Quatermass on this one - for all sorts of reasons.

If "Scoey" wishes to contact us, apologise for spamming and explain why he did not bother to read the rules, then maybe we'll lift the ban and restore his "survey". OTOH...

He left me a pretty apologetic voicemail message. I wasn't here when he got banned and I didn't see the original message but based on the phone message he left, I think he really didn't mean to offend anyone. I say lift the ban. I think he didn't read the rules for the same reason most people don't read the rules; either he didn't see them or assumed they were common sense and didn't require reading.

He seemed to lack a lot of common sense. You can unban him if you want, but I ain't touching it.

This is an Aspie forum. A lot of us (myself included) lack common sense.
