I believe he's referring to the interstitials (Thank you Yowling Cat for the link and the term), but didn't know what to call them so incorrectly called them pop-ups. I've never seen a pop up here, but I do get the interstitials.

Personally, I choose not to let the delay bother me.

hmm I thought I had interstitials blacklisted as well. I've never experienced on on Wrong Planet. Could you tell which advertising network was serving them or at least who the advertiser is?

Classmates.com and Netflix. I don't know how to tell (or if I can tell) which ad network. Nothing obvious indicating the ad network.

I click on the thread I want, and instead of directing me to that thread, I get directed to (usually) a ClassMates.com or a Netflicks.com webpage with a little 15 second counter on it. I can click on the logo, and go to the company webpage, or I can click on the counter and it disappears and I am on the thead I chose. It started about two weeks ago, IIRC.

I did a screen shot when it came up just now. Since it's a large graphic, I'll just put a link.

link to picture

The URL in the address box at the top is the wrongplanet one. The one below is different, something at TribalFusion. I'm guessing that's the ad server. The "Skip ad(9)" is where one clicks to get to the actual webpage, with the 9 being how many seconds left before it goes there without the person clicking.

I don't mind the concept of the interstitial so much (it's easy enough to just click on the timer and get past it) - I'm just wondering why the people at classmates.com think a bunch of Aspies would even be interested in finding out what happened to high-school classmates. Unless they're in prison and I can get some schadenfreunde out of it, I couldn't possibly care less what happened to them!

oh, Jon, are you thinking that Classmates.com even CARES or KNOWS where they advertise their web page? The are not selective, the idea that someone that sees the ad might have gone to school is the point. Think of the www.popularprick.com Google advert on WP that started out "Asperger's Hate Him!" I suppose the ad delivery system picks out a discriptive word on the site it spams for provocation's sake.

@ MR
I notice that you're using Internet Exploder. I've never seen the interstitials with FireFox (or any other ads here). Their AdBlock Pro really does seem to work.

The ads should stop appearing within an hour. Thanks for posting the screenshot (it happened to be the tribal fusion network as you can see in the status bar of the browser).
